The closer we come to summer, the more we’re welcoming nature into our homes. Whether by growing our houseplant collection and buying plants online or adding leafy wallpaper and stylish botanical prints, we’re embracing the bold botanical trend in our living spaces – and loving it!

Why we’re loving botanical prints

You can thank lockdown for our renewed love of the natural world. Having been cooped up indoors for so many months, it’s not surprising that many of us discovered a new passion for houseplants.

But it’s not just the aesthetic value that a fiddle leaf fig or dangling pothos adds to your space (or the addition of botanical prints and plant motifs in graphic art, wallpaper or fabrics). Plants inspire a greater sense of wellbeing – something sorely needed over the past 12 months.

While physical plants release oxygen and clean the air, botanical prints and plant motifs refresh mental clarity, making you more productive. This is because the botanical trend naturally incorporates colours that have a positive effect on mood: yellow is uplifting and inspires creativity while green – and greenery – connects us to nature (and reminds us of garden parties, country lanes, and forest trails…)

How to bring the botanical trend into your home

You can bring botanicals into your interior in so many ways. Of course, plants are the obvious place to start, but if you’re not up to becoming a plant parent just yet, you can “green” your space with botanical prints.

Wallpaper and murals will set the scene (and the theme) of the space while cushions, rugs and artworks (from oversized prints to vintage illustrations) provide instant character. You can choose a minimalistic motif of crisp whites and greens or whimsical scenes of birds, forests and jungles. However, choose with care so that you don’t overwhelm your interior design.

For plant-lovers, Snake Plants, Aloe Vera, Compact Stars and Prayer Plants make for great green companions. Succulents are also having a moment in the sun, perhaps because they’re so easy to look after. They come in all shapes and sizes and you can arrange them in small botanical gardens, hang them in flowerpots or create terrariums.

Whether you nurture an oversized palm or embrace the trend in botanical prints, the inspiring elements of nature will win your heart. Inspired? Shop our botanical mood board and turn your home into an urban jungle.
