This is extra ordinary Old Zulu Wood Carved Tray or Platter from South Africa. This tray is carved out of a single piece hard wood. Such trays were used with great formality to serve different types of foods.

This wonderful handcrafted wooden Zulu platter is known by the local Zulu people as an ugqoko. The wood used does vary but in most cases the Zulu would use the Kiaat wood that is found locally in South Africa. The Zulu serving plate is an important item that is in daily use today and has handles on the side of the food platter for easy handling. The platters are often times placed upside down over another platter to act as a cover.

A wonderful tray to add to your home interior, beautiful way to serve your guests.

Has x4 small feet.  Perfect for displaying fruit, cheeses or any other objects and on its own as a piece of Zulu sculptures art.

Size:  Handle to handle 52cmL x 23cmW

About us

Our green adventures started back in 2009 when we moved into a garden flat in East London.  We renovated a Japanese and Italian water garden from it's overgrown past but with no prior garden experience we got stuck into the books and learned everything there was to know about pruning shrubs and planting.  After the first year tidying the space up we were asked by a friend to join The National Garden Scheme.  The scheme recognises gardens of quality and raises money for charity.  It was a scary prospect of opening the garden to the scrutiny of the public.  So we opened up for the first time and it was so exciting, we received some great positive feedback and some helpful tips from the seasoned gardeners!  Subsequently, we opened our garden every year.
