Inspired by summer, one of our favourite colour trends is coastal. As we prepare to flock to the sandy shores for a weekend of vitamin sea, don’t you often wonder why you can’t feel like this all year round?
Let’s bring the coast into your home as we use three of our favourite coastal escapes to create a wave of seaside inspiration.
Why does the coastline calm us?
Long sunshine days, a bucket and spade and the sound of the lapping waves that lull us into sleep. Why does the ocean have such a calming effect on our wellbeing? It’s the combination of a placebo effect, the colour blue and fresh salty air in our lungs. As we mentally associate the shoreline with time off and an escape from our daily reality, we immediately feel relaxed and calm, even in a home that’s coastal-inspired far from the sea.
The colour blue combined with our memories of sweet summer holidays associates us back to carefree days, immediately making us feel at peace and boosting our inner creative child. Using blue in our home space may seem a little too traditional to acquire a coastal feel but on our mental effect? It may just welcome in that sea-serenity of the good ol’ days.
If you’re craving a seaside sanctuary, then prepare to live in a semi meditative state. The salty air, as well as the movement of the waves, has been seen to alter our brain waves, sending us into a natural “om”.

Coastal creation in Cornwall
If St. Tropez is out of the question, then a trip to the town of Mawes, Cornwall may just do the trick. Its easy-going, stylish vibes ooze coastal flare, setting the stage for inspired interiors. Think sandy tones of natural weaves, rattan accents, and pops of rockpool blues. With this Mediterranean feel, it’ll be hard to remember you’re in England.
Colour palette
Adorn your walls with the shades of simple neutrals, think undertones of blues, pinks, and sandy yellows. Play with broad stripes and white cornices, or find a feature wall in shade lighter. It’s about letting your furniture and fabrics seek the shoreline and the neutrals keeping you on course.
Dress code

There is nowhere more fun that brings out the spirit of the bright blue sea than boho-Brighton. It’s a town that’s alive in summer with a romance that’s not scared to show off its creativity. If you’re seeking luxury seaside inspiration, Salcombe, Devon is your decor buffet. If a Hamptons-inspired all-white yachty lifestyle is your siren call, look no further than the epitome of beachside luxury towns. Think huge, light blasting windows, views over a dramatic bay and A-frame ceilings channelling a minimalist high-end yacht clubhouse. Take your cues from preppy styles, pass the stripes and seek the calm of this luxury life.

It’s fresh and it’s white and complemented by hues of blues. It’s a traditional nautical palette that feels timeless, adding in touches of golds and reds, in subtle accents, you’re aiming for clean, uncomplicated and calm.
